# Streamlined onboarding

> Create a workspace, choose how to bring in data, and confirm your starting structure

If your setup page shows **Workspace**, **Data**, **Structure**, and **Review**,
this is the guide for you. The streamlined flow lets you begin with investment
statements, connect Microsoft 365, or open an empty workspace and add data later.

## Before you start

Have these details ready:

* Your organisation's name and country.
* The reporting currency and financial year-end.
* The legal name and type of the person or organisation that owns the investments.
* Recent statements, or access to Microsoft 365, if you want to bring in data now.

You do not need to invite your team, connect accounting tools, choose billing,
or build a detailed reporting structure before you can begin using InvestSync.

## 1. Workspace

Enter the organisation name, country, reporting currency, and financial
year-end.

Use the legal organisation name your finance team recognises. The reporting
currency is the currency used for portfolio totals and reports, while the
financial year-end sets the reporting period.

## 2. Data

Choose one way to begin:

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="Upload statements" icon="file-up">
    Add recent investment statements and let InvestSync prepare the information
    for review.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Connect Microsoft 365" icon="cloud">
    Bring in suitable documents from the Microsoft 365 account your team uses.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Start without data" icon="arrow-right">
    Open an empty workspace and add investments or documents when you are ready.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

Wait until at least one uploaded document has been added, or one Microsoft 365
document has been found, before continuing. InvestSync can keep reading and
organising those documents in the background while you complete the remaining
stages.

## 3. Structure

Confirm the legal owner name and owner type for the investments. InvestSync does
not assume a legal type, so check that the selected type matches your records.

You can also add a standard set of investment categories as a useful starting
point. This is optional. Detailed categories, subcategories, and tags can be
customised after you open the workspace.

Only the owner details and standard categories you confirm are added. InvestSync
does not create hidden tags or choose a legal owner type for you.

## 4. Review and activate

What you see here depends on how you chose to begin:

* **Your statement information is ready:** review unclear matches, possible
  duplicates, and investments without a suggested category. These items are
  left out unless you choose to include them. Clear items stay out of the way so
  you can focus on decisions.
* **Your statements are still processing:** activate the workspace now and
  review the results from the dashboard when they are ready.
* **You started without data:** activate an empty workspace and add your first
  investment or document later.

Activation opens the organisation dashboard directly. Billing is not part of
streamlined onboarding and will not interrupt these four stages.

## After onboarding

The dashboard's **Getting started** list shows the useful next actions for your
organisation. Depending on how you began, these may include:

* Check an import that is still processing.
* Finish an import that needs attention.
* Connect accounting or document tools.
* Set up tag fields.
* Choose document storage.
* Invite team members.

If an import is still processing when the dashboard opens, use **Import in
progress** to check it. InvestSync also sends a notification when the review is
ready. If only part of an import succeeds, use **Finish your import** to return
to the items that need attention.
